Southend defender Adam Barrett has dismissed talk of a move to Colchester.

Colchester boss Geraint Williams made a bid for Barrett last week but it was rejected by Southend chairman Ron Martin.

And Barrett insists he has no intention of leaving Roots Hall, even though a switch to Colchester would allow him to play in the Championship.

"I'm happy at Southend and I don't want to go anywhere else," he said.

"Everyone knows how much I love playing for the club and my agent approached the chairman during the summer to try to get my contract extended.

"I don't know too much about what's gone on other than the fact a bid has been turned down.

"It's flattering but I've been told I'm staying and that's fine by me."
