Tony Pulis insists he is not looking to bring Ipswich Town midfielder Gavin Williams to Stoke City.

Reports have claimed that Williams could be available for £500,000, although Ipswich have moved to play down the rumours.

The former Yeovil Town man has been linked with Stoke, but Pulis revealed he no longer holds an interest.

"There is no new interest," Pulis told the Sentinel. "I know all about him and reckon he's a pretty good player.

"He's got good feet and will come inside to play in the gullies, but we need someone on the left who can get past people and whip some crosses in, like Liam Lawrence does on the right.

"I quite fancied him at Yeovil a season or two back, but it's just a case of looking and needing a different kind of player right now."

Pulis confirmed he is close to finalising deals to bring a couple of new players to The Britannia Stadium before the start of the season.

He added to the club's official website: "We have got one or two players who are close to signing for us.

"But close means nothing; until they sign on the dotted line nothing is concrete. We are looking for players in every area of the pitch, from front to back.

"We know exactly what we want and who we want, and know we have to hope that one or two things drop for us."
