Watford boss Slavisa Jokanovic is preparing for life in the Barclays Premier League despite still not knowing whether he will be taking the club there.

The Hornets are back in the top flight after finishing second in the Sky Bet Championship, and celebrated promotion with an open-top bus parade on Monday.

Head coach Jokanovic is out of contract in the summer and has yet to agree a new deal, but he offered a broad hint that talks over his future are imminent.

"Today is a day for celebrating and to be happy," the former Chelsea midfielder said. "In the next days we will start thinking about the future of this club.

"My obligation and the club's obligation is to be ready (for the Premier League), to be competitive and to build a team to win games."

Thousands of supporters packed the streets of Watford and the nearby Cassiobury Park to salute the Hornets, who are back among the elite for the first time since 2006.

"It's a nice day for us and for the fans," Jokanovic added. "We should be proud and happy. We were fighting as a team for days like this."

Skipper Troy Deeney signed a new contract earlier this season after turning down a host of Premier League suitors.

The 26-year-old striker drew cheers from the crowd when he told them: "I know what I'm doing!"

Deeney hit 21 goals this term - becoming the first Watford player to score 20 three years running - but he knows life will be a little tougher next time around.

He added: "It's been a great season.

"We are going to have to go again, but not with expectations of challenging. We need to be sensible. As long as we stay up. it will have been a fantastic season."
