Watford winger Ikechi Anya has admitted his goal for Scotland against world champions Germany was the highlight of his career.

The 26-year-old is more used to facing Manuel Neuer on his games console, but he held his nerve to slot the ball past the Germany keeper as the Scots fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat in their European qualifier.

He told the Hornets' website: "It was crazy. I'm not sure it's going to get any better than that! To score a goal against the world champions is something special and it'll take some beating.

"It's definitely the highlight - when I saw the ball hit the back of the net it was the best emotion I've ever felt in football.

"Steven Fletcher put me in and I just thought 'run as quick as you can'. Neuer looked massive but I was just thinking about trying to put it in the bottom corner. It's something I practise quite a lot and luckily it went in.

"Neuer tried to put me off, he came and then stopped and then came again when I got into the box, but I thought I was close enough to try and side-foot it in. Fortunately I managed to lift it a bit and it went into the bottom corner.

"I said before the game if I scored I'd go to the bench to celebrate with the manager and everyone there for having faith in me, and there were some crazy emotions. I usually struggle to score past Neuer on FIFA so this was something else!"
