Watford are closing in on the signing of Ecuador right-back Juan Carlos Paredes.
Paredes, who has just turned 27, impressed at the World Cup finals in Brazil after playing every minute for his country.
Now Paredes has refused to report back to training with his club Sporting Barcelona as he nears a move to Watford and Sky Sports understands he has already agreed personal terms.
His club Barcelona have confirmed they are set to fine Paredes for being AWOL, although they also confirmed talks over his departure were almost complete.
Barcelona president Francisco Hidalgo confirmed: "The negotiation with the English club is almost closed and we are only missing a few defining details."
Regarding Paredes' failure to show up for training, he added: "We have no explanation for it, we call and he does not answer.
"He should have been present to train but he has not returned."
