Watford have moved to sign five players on loan from Udinese on deadline day with an option to sign them on a permanent basis.

Watford manager Gianfranco Zola has moved to sign five players on loan from Udinese on deadline day with an option to sign them on a permanent basis. Defenders Jean-Alain Fanchone, Neuton Piccoli and Lars Ekstrand as well as midfielder Cristian Battocchio and striker Fernando Forestieri have joined the Championship club. The deals are subject to international clearance but represent a clear effort from Zola to add strength in depth to his squad. A statement read: "Gianfranco Zola has strengthened his Watford squad on transfer deadline day by signing five players on season-long loans. The Hornets have an option to purchase all five players at the end of their loan periods.
