Whichelow targets Hornets start

Matty Whichelow is hoping a loan spell at League One club Wycombe can enhance his chances of playing in Watford's first team.

The striker, who joined Wanderers on deadline day, scored one and was heavily involved in the other as the Chairboys beat Tranmere 2-1 to rise out of the relegation places. With the Hornets losing their main striker Marvin Sordell in the transfer window, there is an opportunity for somebody at Vicarage Road to replace him and Whichelow's loan spell could be the catalyst for him. "I'm glad to come here and play some first-team football," he told BBC Three Counties Radio. "My main aim is to come here and do well and to go back to Watford and cement my place in the team there." The striker scored a hat-trick against Gary Waddock's men in a reserve game before making the month-long switch to Adams Park, but he has not ruled out extending that if both parties agree. "That's down to the managers and not me," he added.
