Mackay wants influential midfielder to stay at Vicarage Road

Malky Mackay is hoping Watford midfielder John Eustace will agree to sign a new contract at Vicarage Road. Eustace's current deal expires in the summer and he is due to hold talks regarding an extension after featuring on a regular basis this season. Hornets boss Mackay has praised the 30-year-old's influence on the squad and is aiming to progress negotiations over the coming weeks. "John is one of the players who is out of contract and we are sitting down and talking to him and his representatives at the moment," Mackay told the Watford Observer. "He was an integral part of our football club this year and was a leader on the pitch and off the pitch and demands a lot of respect around the club. "I think he has been a model of consistency this year for us and is an experienced player - we don't have too many left. He is one who helps young players around him. "We are having discussions with him at the moment and I want him to stay here."
