Blades midfielder eyes play-off berth

Midfielder Nick Montgomery remains confident Sheffield United can claim a play-off place this season. The stand-in captain made his 250th start for the Blades in Tuesday's 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest, which left United in seventh place and two points away from the top six. But Montgomery, who missed out on promotion last season after defeat to Burnley in the play-off final, is determined to go one better this time around. He told the club's official website: "Personally I have had a fantastic time here. I've come up through the ranks and been through good and bad times. "It has been difficult recently, after coming so close last season, we have had a massive turnover of players. "We are still around the top six, though, the manager (Kevin Blackwell) has worked hard and the lads that were here last season know what it takes to get into the play-offs - we must keep believing."

Bartley

Meanwhile, Blades defender Nyron Nosworthy has backed on-loan Arsenal full-back Kyle Bartley to have a big future in the game. The 18-year-old defender joined the Championship club on loan from Arsenal earlier this month and has already impressed the players at Bramall Lane. "He's not bad for 18 is he?" Nosworthy said. "Kyle is fantastic for someone so young and it's a pleasure to play alongside him. He's definitely got what it takes. "The lad talks a lot himself and that's good to see, but I also talk him through things when necessary. "I told Kyle when he first came here not to be afraid to give anyone a shake-up and that it doesn't matter who it is. "If he thinks somebody or something needs taking care of then he should do it. Even if it is me that needs sorting out then he won't be afraid to tell me."
