Centre-half joins club on free transfer from Blues

Central defender Martin Taylor has joined Championship side Watford from Birmingham on a free transfer. The 30-year-old moves to Vicarage Road on a deal until 2012, having spent a six-year spell at Birmingham. Taylor made 117 appearances for the Blues during his time at St Andrews, scoring three goals, and he played an important part in their promotion to the Premier League during the 2006/07 season, as well as securing their return to the top flight last term. The former Blackburn centre-back has been deemed surplus to requirements by Birmingham manager Alex McLeish, with his side performing well in defence. Watford boss Malky Mackay will hope Taylor can come in and improve the Hornets' form at the back. They have conceded 42 goals in 26 league games this season and are currently in the bottom half of the table. Taylor is expected to play a part in Watford's game against promotion-hunting Swansea on Saturday.
