Heidar Helguson could be set for a return to the Watford side when they travel to Middlesbrough next weekend.
The Icelandic striker, who is on loan from Queens Park Rangers, has been out for three weeks after pulling a calf muscle against Leicester last month.
The 32-year-old has begun light training again but Hornets boss Malky Mackay will not be rushed into making a decision on his involvement at the Riverside.
He told the Watford Observer: "He needs to join in with full training before we can gauge him in what direction we go as to whether he starts, is on the bench or whether he is involved at all and we wait until the following week.
"But we are happy with the progress so far."
Helguson originally spent five and a half years at Vicarage Road and had spells at Fulham and Bolton before returning on loan after falling out of favour at Loftus Road.
