Keeper signs new 12 month contract with Midlands club

Walsall goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin hopes to make his mark on the first team this season after signing a new 12-month contract at the Banks's Stadium. The 20-year-old keeper will continue as second choice to veteran first-team regular Clayton Ince who started every game for Walsall this campaign. Gilmartin spent most of last season on loan on Hednesford Town and is looking forward to having the chance of proving himself in League One. "I am very happy to sign this new contract," he told the club's official website.

First-team chance

"Last season was a tough one, but Eric McManus (goalkeeping coach) obviously sees potential in me. "I enjoy working closely with Eric and Clayton and can only learn from them. I want to continue improving and hopefully grab my first-team chance with both hands if and when it comes along. "There is sure to be a chance for me somewhere along the line and it is up to me to take it and show the gaffer what I can do."
