Adrian Boothroyd has welcomed the decision to delay the deportation of Watford midfielder Al Bangura.
Bangura has been given permission to apply for a work permit, which would enable him to remain in Britain, rather than being forced to return to his native Sierra Leone.
A Watford delegation including chairman Graham Simpson and local MP Claire Ward met with Home Office Minister Liam Byrne and were granted the concessionary measure.
Boothroyd believes that the correct outcome can now be achieved and is more than happy that the initial decision to deport Bangura has been halted.
Common sense
He told
Sky Sports News: "There has been a mistake made.
"I'm delighted to say that I think that the people in the right places have been able to be big enough to recognise that, to see if we can find a way through.
"And, fingers crossed, let's hope common sense prevails and that everyone's views are listened to."
And Boothroyd has saluted everyone who has offered their support to Bangura in the recent weeks.
He added: "Our fans have been fantastic from day one and when something like this comes along, some adversity, where there is a serious situation involved, everybody gets together.
"We've got some great support throughout football and from other circles as well.
"We stick together. Loyalty works two ways. It's easy to sing when you're winning. Sometimes when you're not winning and things aren't going your way, that's when you find out about people.
"He'll find out about the people he's got with him and I'm certainly 100 per cent behind him."
