Preston have had a bid accepted for an unnamed player.Preston have had a bid accepted for an unnamed player and Paul Simpson is hopeful of completing the deal.
Skysports.com revealed last week that Simpson was targeting Darius Henderson, and it is understood the Watford striker is the mystery man.
Preston are currently on a pre-season trip to America and Simpson has revealed he moved for the player prior to jetting out.
Simpson is confident the deal will be done on the club's return to England, although personal terms have still to be agreed with the player.
"We had a bid accepted the weekend before we came out here, and we've already talked to the player," he told the club's official website.
"He is currently still training with his club back in England and thinking over the offer we have put to him.
"I'm hopeful something can be sorted when we get back and that we can add him to our squad.
"We have put an excellent offer on the table to the club and the player, the club have accepted and hopefully the player will do the same."
Meanwhile, Preston midfielder Paul McKenna has had surgery on his troublesome groin injury and will miss the first three months of the season.
Physio Steve Kemp said: "We are hoping that between eight and 12 weeks he will be back out playing football.
"Twelve weeks with the first team and in eight weeks back doing some sort of football - those are the targets we are working towards at the moment."
