Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd is not getting carried away by the club's fine start to the season.

Boothroyd, who was a somewhat shock appointment at Vicarage Road this summer, has guided Watford to fourth place in the table.

The former Leeds coach knows there is a long way to go in the season and he is not taking anything for granted.

"I think some fans were quite pleased at my appointment, while others were quite amused, but it's early days and I am not going to get excited as I haven't done anything yet," Boothroyd told Sky Sports News.

Watford defender Clarke Carlisle has hailed the impact of Boothroyd at the club and believes they can mount a bid for promotion.

"Everyone's grabbed hold of what the gaffer is offering," said Carlisle.

"Not only are they running with it but they are believing in it as well and that just makes a whole heap of difference.

"I would love to play in The Premiership and I don't see any reason why that can't be with Watford this season or next because something tremendous is going on at this club."
