Five goals lit up Turf Moor, but the home fans went home disappointed as Watford pinched a 3-2 win.

Burnley are looking to avoid the drop and things looked good when Mark McGregor opened the scoring, but they were undone by strikes from Paul Devlin, Heidar Helguson and Lee Cook.

There was no sign of the troubles that followed for Burnley when McGregor nodded home from close in after Ian Moore had headed a corner into his path on 30 minutes.

Watford's confidence was not dented by going a goal behind and their pressure was rewarded with a penalty on 39 minutes.

Graham Branch hauled down Devlin in the box and the Scot dusted himself down before tucking his spot-kick home.

The Hornets continued to dominate after the break and Helguson deservedly put them ahead when latching onto a long ball and clipping his shot over Brian Jensen.

Cook gave Watford a cushion with a low drive from the edge of the box on 84 and they hung on to take the points despite Dele Adebola setting up a frantic finish with a neat header four minutes from time.
