A relegation six-pointer saw Watford come from behind to beat strugglers Derby and give themselves some breathing space in the race to stay up.

Watford knew that defeat would see them drop below Derby and perilously close to the relegation spots.

They started nervously, and conceded through Paul Peschisolido - who has been an instant hit with The Rams' fans.

The Canadian scored his second in two games, and his 100th league goal, after Candido Costa's free-kick had left The Hornets' defence in disarray.

However, Heidar Helguson hauled his side level to clam nerves, reacting first after Lee Cook's drive had come back off a post.

Seven minutes into the second half Watford took the lead when man-of-the-match Helguson flicked through to Gavin Mahon who fired past Lee Grant to lift the home crowd.

Watford are now in 16th place, and will feel their place in Division One is looking much safer.

Derby on the other hand will be anxiously waiting for the result between rivals Nottingham Forest and fourth bottom Burnley on Wednesday.
