Norwich City lost their 100 percent home record and missed the chance to go top of Division One as Watford grabbed a 2-1 win at Carrow Road.

A brilliant solo performance from defender-turned-striker Scott Fitzgerald (pictured) saw him score the first and then win the penalty for the second.

The Canaries had started brightly and a buoyant Norwich crowded were confident of nine home wins in-a-row.

Craig Fleming should have scored after just a three minutes, but he headed straight at Lenny Pidgeley.

Watford had not showed much in the opening exchanges, apart from a Lee Cook free-kick and it was the young winger who then opened up home side's defence.

Cook broke down the left and beat his man before crossing across the area for Fitzgerald, who slid the ball in ahead of his team-mate Danny Webber.

Norwich were stunned, but they struggled to force their way back into the game and seemed to be looking for a penalty to get back into the game - having three seperate appeals turned down.

The Canaries then almost scored through Ian Henderson, but his diving header was well saved by the impressive Pidgeley.

Watford then doubled their lead when Fitzgerald raced on to a through ball and was brought down by Green, which allowed captain Neil Coz to step up and convert.

Young substitute Ryan Jarvis pulled one back just a few minutes from time after good work from Darren Huckerby, but it was too little, too late and Watford held on for a deserved win.
