HEIDAR HELGUSON has emerged as the planetfootball.com favourite to win the top scorer award in Division One - if he isn't snapped up by a Premiership team.

Watford's Helguson beat off competition from two other H's from W's, with Wimbledon's John Hartson and West Brom's Lee Hughes also featuring heavily in a poll of over 1000 of our readers.

The Hornets' hitman picked up over a quarter of the vote with 28%, but was fought all the way by Welsh international Hartson, who has done it at the top level and could find his aerial ability a key part of The Dons' plans for a speedy Premiership return.

Lee Hughes is one of the deadliest finishers in the First Division, and after topping the charts two years ago is rated by 13% of you as the man most feared by opposition defences.

Louis Saha comes into the league with a fearful reputation in front of goal, and Fulham's Frenchman made a late surge to pull level with Hughes in the poll after opening his account for the club in their opening fixture of the Nationwide league against Crewe.

Geoff Horsfield found Saha edge him out of the contention at Fulham, precipitating a move to Birmingham, and the Blues' powerful striker was some 5% behind his successor in this poll.

Andy Booth would have played for Wolves but for a disagreement about personal terms, and the Sheffield Wednesday star rubbed salt in the wound by scoring against his suitors as the two sides met in the first televised fixture of the Nationwide season.

Booth picked up 7% of the vote, enough to avoid last place in the poll which went to Clyde Wijnhard with 6%.
