Mackay targets move for Maynard

Sky Sports understands Cardiff City are eyeing a move for West Ham striker Nicky Maynard. Maynard's future at Upton Park has been the subject of speculation this summer with the player unlikely to be first-choice in Sam Allardyce's starting XI. The Hammers are in the market for a new forward before the transfer window closes and any arrival would push Maynard further down the pecking order. The striker, who joined West Ham last January from Bristol City, was restricted to just nine starts during the closing stages of the 2012/13 campaign. A number of clubs have been linked with a swoop, but Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay is hoping to steal a march on their rivals by moving for the 25-year-old as he looks to bolster his attacking options. Mackay sees Maynard as a key addition to his plans as he looks to mount a serious bid for promotion and he is readying a bid before the close of the transfer window.
