Marseille midfielder on the verge of being confirmed as a Hammer

West Ham look set to complete the signing of France midfielder Alou Diarra from Marseille. The Hammers have issued a statement on their official website revealing they are on the brink of completing a significant signing on Friday. Sky Sports sources understand the player in question is 31-year-old Diarra, who was reportedly set to arrive in London earlier this week to undergo a medical ahead of a £2million move. A statement on the club's official website read: "West Ham United are hopeful of tying up a major new signing in the next few hours. "The deal for the international star is at an advanced stage and it is hoped the transfer will be confirmed later on Friday." Diarra played every minute of France's group games at Euro 2012 but was axed by coach Laurent Blanc for the quarter-final defeat to Spain following an altercation with Samir Nasri. And his exit from Marseille appeared inevitable after he reported back from national team duty this summer six days late and was fined by the club. It will not be the player's first spell in English football as he had three years at Liverpool from 2002 to 2005 but spent much of it back in France on loan and did not feature for the Reds. Meanwhile, West Ham are reported to have had a bid of £9million rejected by Wolves for England international winger Matt Jarvis.
