Billy Davies hopes new signing Ryan Bertrand will boost Nottingham Forest's promotion aspirations.

Forest boss also taking a look at Davenport

Billy Davies hopes new loan signing Ryan Bertrand will boost Nottingham Forest's promotion aspirations after also taking Calum Davenport on trial. Bertrand has moved to the City Ground on loan until January from Chelsea and Davies was happy to have ended a long pursuit of the full-back. The Forest boss is backing the youngster to make a quick impact at the club and believes Bertrand will benefit from another stint in the Championship. "We've admired him for some time," Davies told the club's official website. "We know he is a good, young, attacking full-back and he certainly gives us excellent ability on the left-hand side.

Great ambition

"He's played over 100 games in the Championship so he knows what it is all about. Ryan also knows that he's joining a club with great ambition and intention this season. "We hope he can help us and in return that we can help him develop his own career." Meanwhile, former West Ham defender Davenport is training with Forest as he seeks to regain his fitness after suffering serious leg wounds in a stabbing incident in August 2009. Davies said: "We are giving Calum the opportunity to train with us while giving ourselves the chance to look at him."
