Midfielder glad to be playing first-team football again

MK Dons' on-loan midfielder Nigel Quashie insists he is more than happy to drop down divisions to get his playing career back on track. The former Scotland international has struggled to break into the first team at West Ham since returning from a long-term foot injury last season. He impressed in the Championship last term during loan spells with both Birmingham City and Wolves, but he told skysports.com that he would rather be playing regularly in League One than sitting on the sidelines in the top-tier. "I've breezed through the reserve games and I think West Ham have realised that I can't gain any more from playing at that level," said Quashie. "I'm beyond that now, so this is now a chance to go out on loan and show what I can do at first-team level because there is no point in me sitting around at home, which is what I've been told to do. "I've got a good contract with West Ham for this season, but I'm not the sort of person that is happy sitting around. "I want to be playing and hopefully I can do well for MK Dons and help them progress this season, whilst helping myself at the same time."

Benefit

The 31-year-old revealed that other clubs were interested in taking him on loan, but that Paul Ince's side was the one which offered him the best deal in terms of games available to play in. He added: "That is one thing that will benefit me because the Christmas period brings with it a vast amount of games in a short space of time, which is ideal for me. "I need to get as many games under my belt in a month that I can really and I've looked at fixture lists and calculated how many games I could play in potentially. "There were other clubs looking at taking me on loan, but I needed to get things done quickly and they (MK Dons) wanted the same thing as me in terms of getting a deal done as quick as possible."
