Blues seek to keep midfielder

Birmingham are hoping to extend Nigel Quashie's loan deal from West Ham for another month. The midfielder's current agreement with the Blues is set to expire on Saturday, but Alex McLeish is keen to retain the services of the former England U21 international until 28th December. Quashie has impressed during his short time at St Andrews, making four appearances for the Championship promotion-chasers. He will be unavailable for their clash with Swansea on Friday due to suspension, but could be handed a further opportunity to impress in the future. "We're looking at another month again," McLeish told the club's official website. "Nigel made a good contribution last weekend (against Charlton) apart from his sending off which was a wee bit unlucky. "He felt he slipped as he tapped the player on the ankle from behind and you've got to back the player on that side. "The booking that got him in trouble was the retaliation."

Meanwhile, McLeish has also revealed that he is keeping tabs on St Patrick's midfielder Keith Fahey. The Irishman has previously spent time in England with Arsenal and Aston Villa, but moved back to his homeland after failing to make an impression in the Premier League. "Fahey, we've made enquiries about him now," said McLeish. "At this stage I don't like to say how optimistic or pessimistic I am. "When I have got something to say, I'll let you know. "He's had a good season for St Pat's and he looks a decent player."
