West Ham United's Anton Ferdinand has been arrested over an alleged attack that took place outside a nightclub.

The England Under-21 international was formally arrested on Thursday at an East London police station over an altercation outside of Faces nightclub in Ilford, Essex.

Police were called to the incident on October 2, where an allegation of assault was made.

Scotland Yard have confirmed that a "man in his 20s" had been arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed until next month.

"We were called at 1.13 am on October 2 to reports of a disturbance outside Faces nightclub in Cranbrook Road in Ilford," said a police spokesman.

"A subsequent allegation of assault was reported to the police.

"A man in his 20s attended an east London police station in connection with the allegation.

"He has been arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed to return on a date in November pending further inquiries."

West Ham have yet to comment on the incident.
