Palermo have been left cursing their luck after drawing West Ham United in the Uefa Cup.

The Sicilians face a tough trip to Upton Park on September 14 before a the home leg at La Favorita on September 28.

While the draw against a Serie A side did not appear favourable for Alan Pardew's men, the Italians themselves have admitted they are less than thrilled with the tie.

"It will be really hard. I was certainly expecting a better draw," coach Francesco Guidolin told the club's website.

Club captain Eugenio Corini has echoed his manager's sentiments about the clashes with the FA Cup finalists, but he remains excited by the prospect of The Premiership club.

"It will surely be a good away match even if we have been paired with the most difficult opponents of the ones that were in the pot," Corini enthused.

"West Ham, like all English sides, are surely a tough, physically strong team.

"To get through the round Palermo will need to show real quality.

"The only thing that could give us the chance of qualification is maybe the fact that we will play the second leg at home."
