Alan Pardew feels Barcelona striker Maxi Lopez has slipped through his grasp.Alan Pardew feels Barcelona striker Maxi Lopez has slipped through his grasp, but the West Ham chief is still eager to bring some major names to Upton Park in January.
Argentine striker Lopez is well down the pecking order at Camp Nou and Pardew admitted recently that he was keen on pushing through a loan deal in January.
However, despite not currently figuring at Barca, Lopez is unlikely to head to East London come January.
"I think that one has gone away from us," Pardew told Sky Sports News. "I think there will be a few more names who come and go before the window, this is the nature of this game."
The Hammers have made a solid start to life back in The Premiership and Pardew is keen to add further quality to his already talented squad.
"Personally, it is difficult for me as I am trying to recruit one or two special players who could go to Champions League teams who have a better tradition than us in recent seasons, so I am just saying to them that we are here and looking for quality players."
Pardew is a fan of Crystal Palace striker Andy Johnson and he irked Eagles chief Iain Dowie recently when comments attributed to him emerged into the public domain.
The West Ham chief feels his comments about Johnson were taken out of context and has apologised to his opposite number at Selhurst Park.
"I was asked if I would be interested in Andrew Johnson," he added. "I said we are interested in any quality player and the mistake I made was to mention Andrew Johnson's name in the follow up to that.
"I have upset Iain with that and I apologise to him and to everyone at Crystal Palace as I would not want to do that.
"It was a mistake made by me in a genuine manner."
