Magpies eye French starlet

Notts County have made a move for West Ham United striker Youssef Sofiane.

Notts County have made a move for West Ham United striker Youssef Sofiane.

The French youngster is wanted on loan by The Magpies, who are looking to kick-start their season after a disappointing start.

"He is a player we have been looking at for a while," said Notts boss Gary Mills.

"He was highly thought of when he first signed at Upton Park. He is quick and sharp and we think he could give us something."

Sofiane has made just two appearances for The Hammers since joining them from Auxerre in 2002.

Meanwhile, The Magpies could without defender Kelvin Wilson for up to three weeks after picking up a calf injury in Saturday's 0-0 draw with Cheltenham Town.
