Fiorentina are desperate to offload Nuno Gomes following their relegation from Serie A last season, which has left them in severe financial difficulties.
The Portuguese striker has been linked with Liverpool and Tottenham in the past, although he has never been too keen on a switch to England.
Reports have suggested that West Ham have offered £5 million for Gomes, a sum that Fiorentina would find hard to turn down under the circumstances.
Gomes is thought to want to return to Benfica any cash bid could well be accepted by the cash-strapped Viola, with Italian sources claiming a five-year contract may be awaiting him at Upton Park.
Should Roeder fail in any attempts to sign Gomes, he has also been eyeing Perugia striker Vryzas.
The 28-year-old Greek international has been linked with numerous moves away from Perugia following his displays in Italy.
Tottenham have been credited with an interest in him, as have Fulham and Italian giants Juventus.
Roeder could turn his attentions to the former PAOK Solonika man should his interest in Gomes fail to be followed up.
