Charlton midfielder Dale Stephens is to have an ankle operation on Tuesday, with Chris Powell admitting he "will be out for a few weeks".
The 21-year-old summer signing from Oldham is going under the knife to clear up a persistent problem and faces a number of weeks on the sidelines.
Manager Chris Powell told Charlton's official website: "After a consultation between myself, our physio Erol Umut and Dale, we feel it's right for him to get a quick clean-up operation on his ankle, and he will be out for a few weeks.
"It's been troubling him for quite a while and he's been playing through the pain barrier, and hopefully he will come back right as rain.
"We want to get it right and ready for the rest of the season."
Powell also revealed midfielder Bradley Pritchard will soon be back in training having been out since September with a foot injury.
