Young striker earns one-year extension at Stadium of Light

Skysports.com understands Sunderland youngster Jordan Cook has agreed a new deal at the club. The promising striker, who can also operate on either flank, has been handed a one-year extension at the Stadium of Light. Cook is highly regarded by the coaching staff on Wearside and was on the fringes of Steve Bruce's first-team squad last season. He made three substitute appearances for the Black Cats last term and also spent a spell out on loan with Walsall, where he scored once in eight appearances. Cook suffered a cruciate ligament injury back in September 2009 but battled his way back to full fitness. Just over 12 months later he was called into first-team squad and made his senior debut in the Boxing Day defeat to Manchester United.
