Experienced midfielder agrees one-year extension

Mark Gower has signed a new contract at Swansea, pledging his allegiance to the club for another year. The midfielder's current deal was set to expire at the end of the season, but he has penned a 12-month extension to that agreement. The 32-year-old is delighted to have prolonged his association with the club, especially as he feared he may be on his way out of the Liberty Stadium next summer. "I couldn't be happier," Gower told the club's official website. "If I'm honest, during pre-season I thought my future at the club looked bleak. "We didn't have a manager and the wide positions were looking strong. I was worried about not getting in the team and I am not the type who would be happy sitting on the bench. Things looked uncertain. "But the new gaffer came in, switched me to a new position in the holding role and I'd like to think that my performances have earned me the new contract. "It's probably my best spell at the club and I am delighted to sign a new deal."

Outstanding

Swans boss Brendan Rodgers had no hesitation in handing Gower fresh terms, with the former Tottenham trainee an integral part of his plans. He said: "I'm delighted Mark has committed himself to the club for another season. "He's been outstanding from the very first day I arrived at the club, on and off the pitch. "I've got no doubt that he will continue to be a great influence over the next few seasons."
