Veteran full-back accepts coaching role

Leicester City have appointed Chris Powell as their new first-team development coach. The 39-year-old was part of the Foxes squad which secured the League One title last season, making 12 starts for Nigel Pearson's men. He had appeared to be on his way out of the Walkers Stadium this summer at the end of his contract, but has now been persuaded to stay on. Pearson has asked the former England international to join his coaching staff, while also re-registering as a player in case of emergency. "Obviously I will not be looking to play too often and I am also taking one or two sessions which has been exciting and a great learning curve for me," Powell told the club's official website. "I am going to be a development coach around the first team and also registered as a player so I have got the best of both worlds. "I want to become a manager in the future and I don't see a better place for me to learn."
