Ipswich Town have decided against extending the loan of Charlton Athletic midfielder Darren Ambrose.
Ambrose returned to Portman Road in November and made eight appearances during his time with the club.
He was hoping to secure a permanent deal with Ipswich, but Town boss Jim Magilton has allowed Ambrose to return to Charlton.
"Darren's a good player but we have not seen the best of him," Magilton told the club's official website.
"It's not worked out as he and we would have hoped for and with the loan over, he's now going back to Charlton."
Meanwhile, Magilton has appointed formed Swindon Town manager John Gorman as his new assistant.
Town chief executive Derek Bowden said: "Jim has been speaking to John over the last few weeks and it's all been agreed.
"It's only a case of finalising the paperwork now, which should be done on Wednesday and then John will be with us as assistant manager."
