Charlton are hoping to agree a loan deal to sign Derby defender Jay McEveley, skysports.com understands.
Addicks caretaker boss Phil Parkinson is keen to bring in a new left-back and has targeted a move for McEvley.
McEveley is believed to be interested in a loan move away from Derby after dropping down the pecking order at Pride Park.
The 23-year-old recently had a spell on loan at Preston and he impressed during his time at Deepdale before returning to Derby.
Charlton are keen to do a deal before Thursday's loan deadline and are thought to be ready to offer Luke Varney in a swap deal.
It now remains to be seen if Rams boss Paul Jewell is interested in taking Varney as part of the deal and letting McEveley go with his defensive options stretched because of injuries.
