Colchester have raided Championship rivals Charlton to sign Izale McLeod.
McLeod has joined Championship strugglers Colchester on a month's loan.
The former Derby striker has struggled to establish himself at The Valley since his summer arrival from MK Dons.
Addicks boss Alan Pardew has decided to loan him out so that he can get some much-needed action under his belt and McLeod could make his debut for Colchester against West Brom this weekend.
League Two side Barnet had expressed an interest in McLeod, but the forward has opted for a switch to Layer Road.
Meanwhile, Charlton have recruited midfield prospect Dorian Smith from non-league Tooting & Mitcham.
The 20-year-old has been on trial at The Valley recently and impressed Pardew sufficiently to earn himself a contract, although Charlton will loan him back to the Ryman League One South outfit until the end of the season.
