Les Reed has been picking the brains of former manager Alan Curbishley in a bid to keep Charlton Athletic in the Premiership.
Since succeeding Curbishley's replacement Iain Dowie last month, Reed has been striving to lift The Addicks out of the relegation zone.
A 1-0 win over Blackburn in midweek saw the club move off the bottom of the table and Reed admits he has been seeking help from various sources.
"I have spoken to Alan and we had a long chat," Reed told Sky Sports News.
"It would be silly not to tap in to his experience of this club and league. We talked a few things over, he gave some good advice and I've taken it on board.
"Other managers have given me a lot of encouragement as well. I've had a chat with Alex (Ferguson) yesterday and Lennie Lawrence - the escapologist of all time at Charlton - has given me a few tips too."
Meanwhile, Charlton captain Luke Young is hoping the victory over Blackburn will be a decisive moment in the team's season.
Young said: "At the moment we tend not to look at the league. I know everybody says it, but we've got to look at every game as it comes.
"We treated Tuesday like a cup final atmosphere and everybody put a lot into it and gave everything they have.
"We got our reward in the end, maybe there was a little luck with Talal's free-kick, but I think we deserved that and I hope it can be a turning point."
