Dowie in quick cull

Iain Dowie has released two players after just 24 hours in the Charlton job.

Iain Dowie has wasted little time in making an impact at The Valley as he has released two players after just 24 hours in the Charlton job.

Chris Perry and Jay Bothroyd have both been freed from the club after Dowie decided neither were in his plans for next season.

Bothroyd arrived in South East London last August on a free transfer from Italian outfit Perugia.

He penned a three-year agreement - but that was dependant on appearances and just four starts was not enough to secure his long-term future.

Perry has also been freed after some three seasons with The Addicks.

He amassed just under 100 games with the club - but with Jon Fortune penning a new long-term deal this week, the decision has been taken to let the former Tottenham man go.
