Derby are hoping to sign Charlton's Kevin Lisbie to ease their striking problems.
The Rams have lost on-loan Tottenham striker Mounir el Hamdaoui to injury for a few weeks, while Danny Graham is due to return to Middlesbrough next week after his loan stint at Pride Park.
The Championship strugglers have also expressed an interest in Dwight Yorke, but it is believed they may struggle to agree a deal for the former Manchester United star.
Rams caretaker boss Terry Westley has now moved to try and sign Lisbie, but he has been unable to agree a deal to have Lisbie available for this weekend's clash with Norwich.
"Kevin's got pace and has experience of playing in The Premiership," said Westley.
"I worked with him as a 17-year-old at Charlton so I know what we're getting and the lad wants to play games."
