New Bristol City manager Gary Johnson has made his first player signing by landing Charlton Athletic defender Osei Sankofa on loan.

The 20-year-old arrives at Ashton Gate for a month-long spell as cover for the injured Matty Heywood.

The former Swindon Town centre back (pictured) will be out for up to four weeks after being told he needs surgery to treat a knee injury.

Heywood's absence means Sankofa is likely to make his debut in City's backline when The Robins host Barnsley on Tuesday evening.

"It's a big ask for a player to go straight into the side without a training session but Osei is an intelligent footballer capable of handling the situation," Johnson told the club's official website.

"I have been keeping tabs on him for some time and was thinking of taking him to Yeovil before I came here.

"He has a great leap in him and can compete well in the air, but is also a good footballer."
