Ambrose eyeing England

Darren Ambrose is looking to catch Sven Goran Eriksson's eye at Charlton.

Darren Ambrose is hopeful his move to Charlton will improve his claims of securing international honours with England.

Ambrose moved to The Valley from Newcastle last week and is confident of making a big impact at Charlton.

The midfielder's career stagnated on Tyneside, after moving from Ipswich, and is ready for the fresh challenge in the hope of catching Sven Goran Eriksson's eye.

"It has always been a dream of mine to play for England," said the 21-year-old midfielder. "Hopefully I can show my best form with Charlton."

Ambrose will be joined at Charlton by Chris Powell, who has rejoined the club from West Ham, and he has hit out at his treatment by The Hammers.

"I am delighted the chance arose for me to go back," stated the veteran full back. "But it is very weird to be truthful.

"I was trying to negotiate a new deal with West Ham, but was offered less than last season. I didn't think that was right."
