Charlton star Danny Murphy has hit back at fans who are criticising Alan Curbishley.
Curbishley has come under fire from some fans after a poor run of form which has seen Charlton record just one win in their last nine games.
Murphy has jumped to the defence of Curbishley and believes the fans have to realistic.
"Alan has probably been a victim of his own success," said Murphy.
"The club has reached levels that maybe none of the fans thought they could. When that isn't repeated every week or every season, it gives them a reason to criticise.
"But as far as I'm concerned, we have an excellent manager who's done great things here.
"There are clubs below us who have spent far more money.
"By any standards Alan has been great for Charlton. People have to be realistic."
