Charlton Athletic ace Caig is training with Hibs, while van der Butte, who is currently at Belgian club Beveren, is expected for a week's trial soon.
Caig, the former Blackpool and Carlisle goalkeeper, has been offered a new deal by The Addicks, but the player is keen on playing regular first-team football.
Hibs boss Alex McLeish admitted that he wanted to have a closer look at Caig as he continues his search for a new keeper.
"Tony is a solid, competent keeper. I think Charlton want to keep him but he wants to attempt to get a crack at top-team football and we need solid back up."
"It's a chance for him to take a look at Hibs and for us to have a look at him. We'll take it from there.
Hibs are also looking at young Bolton Wanderers third-choice keeper James Evans as a possible future signing.
