Sheffield United's fringe players have been given a huge incentive to force their way into new boss Nigel Adkins' first-team plans.

Adkins followed the Blades' fortunes last season, albeit from a distance, and is already aware of some of the talent at his disposal, but is also ready to get the best out of some others in his squad. "You've seen so many times, why does one player do well for one club and not for another football club and why does he do well for one manager but not another manager?" Adkins said. "So we will give everybody an opportunity, we will work with them very quickly in pre-season and work out where we are, how we can improve. "A lot of players have been brought in over the last two years. We are aware of them, we have watched them, we saw them last year, not live, I saw them on the television. "I am aware of several of the players, but that awareness is different to having them on the training ground and getting to know them on a one-to-one basis."
