MK Dons remain in the thick of the race for automatic promotion from League One after a 4-1 home win over Notts County on Saturday.

Following a goalless first half, Carl Baker opened the scoring after 63 minutes and Lewis Baker (74) added the second with a clever lob.

Elliot Whitehouse pulled one back for the Magpies but Will Grigg wrapped it up for the hosts with two goals in the last six minutes.

Karl Robinson’s side are currently fourth in the table, four points behind second-placed Preston, who drew 1-1 at in-form Barnsley.

Preston forward Joe Garner grabbed his 20th goal of the season to put them ahead in the 37th-minute but Jabo Ibehre equalised 11 minutes from time, heading home his first goal for Barnsley from a Mason Holgate cross.

Fifth-placed Sheffield United ended a run of five games without a win, a 29th-minute Jose Baxter penalty the difference as they beat Port Vale 1-0 at Bramall Lane.

Just behind them, Peterborough have gone sixth and into the play-off places after a 1-0 win over Chesterfield.

Michael Bostwick put the hosts in front in the 27th-minute and they held on for the victory despite having Ricardo Santos sent off just after the hour mark when he received a second yellow card in a matter of minutes.

Crawley have climbed out of the relegation zone and up into 19th place after a 1-0 win at home to fellow strugglers Leyton Orient.

Skipper Izale McLeod got the crucial goal, tucking away a 33rd minute penalty after he was fouled in the box by Luke O’Neill.

Crawley are now a point above Notts County and Crewe, who have slipped into the relegation zone on goal difference after losing 1-0 at home to Oldham.

Conor Wilkinson was on target with 16 minutes left for the Latics, who are 13th in the standings.
