Blackpool's top scorer Steven Davies is set for the Bloomfield Road exit door after asking to speak to another club.

Striker Davies, who has five goals to his credit this season, was left out of the Seasiders' squad against Birmingham on Wednesday night and has told his manager Lee Clark that he is keen to leave the Sky Bet Championship's bottom club.

"I spoke to Steven on Tuesday and he asked if he could speak to another club," Clark told the Blackpool Gazette.

"He wants to go and speak to them, although we haven't struck a deal yet with that club."

Having joined in 2013, 27-year-old Davies is out of contract in the summer and has been close to joining Sheffield United this season.

Clark stressed that he would not stand in Davies' way if he did not want to remain at Blackpool.

"When I first got here Steven was out of the team and had been injured," he added.

"We got him going and he scored some goals, but during the last couple of weeks he didn't look like he was enjoying his football.

"It's not just about being a manager, it's about treating them as people too.

"I don't want any of my players to be unhappy and Steven felt he would like to pursue something different, but at the moment there's no deal agreed."
