De Girolamo to leave Sheff Utd

Sheffield United teenager Diego De Girolamo will leave the club in the summer, boss Nigel Clough has confirmed.

De Girolamo, 19, has turned down the offer of a new deal at Bramall Lane and will depart the club when his current contract expires. "His time here will come to an end when his contract ends. He's rejected his contract offer and the chance to stay here," Clough told BBC Radio Sheffield. "We felt we had offered him a good deal but I think he feels he will get better opportunities elsewhere." Chesterfield-born De Girolamo, who has long been linked with his hometown club, had a loan spell earlier this season at York, where he scored four goals in eight appearances. United will be due compensation from the Italy Under-20 international's next club as the Blades brought the player through their academy and he is under the age of 24.
