Paul Peschisolido is backing his old club Sheffield United to overcome Tottenham and reach the League Cup final.

The Canada striker scored 19 goals during three seasons under Neil Warnock at Bramall Lane and he believes United's formidable cup record could give them the edge against the four-time winners.

He told the Morning View on Sky Sports News HQ: "I think Sheffield United will be happy with Spurs and I think Spurs will be equally happy with them.

"They did wonderfully well in the FA Cup last season and they will not be daunted by it and they will go into the game in extremely confident mood.

"Nigel Clough has got the team playing ever so well in the cup competitions. I think he has lost only three out of 16 cup ties there so he has a tremendous record. Being my old club, I hope they go on and earn themselves a place in the final."

The tie will be played next month with the first leg at White Hart Lane on the week beginning January 19. Chelsea play Liverpool in the other semi-final and Peschisolido is backing Jose Mourinho's men to come out on top.

"Chelsea are playing ever so well and they are strong in every department. The back four are extremely resilient, they are scoring goals for fun with Diego Costa up front so I would have to say they are favourites."
