Sheff Utd set for striker boost

Sheffield United strikers Michael Higdon and Marc McNulty could both return to first-team action this weekend following injury.

Higdon has missed the last six games due to a hamstring problem, while McNulty has been sidelined for a similar period due to a facial injury sustained during an incident in a Scottish nightclub. The pair's absence forced manager Nigel Clough into an unsuccessful bid to sign a new forward, but both players are back in contention for Saturday's home game against Notts County after playing 45 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Bradford. "Michael and Marc both played as planned and came through unscathed meaning they are added to the squad and in contention to feature against Notts County, which is excellent news," Clough told the club's official website. Clough was also boosted by the return to action of midfielder Florent Cuvelier, who has been sidelined for almost a year due to a serious knee injury. "The plan was always to give Flo 30 minutes or so," Clough added. "We would have liked to have given him a bit longer but he felt something in training and we took the decision not to push him too hard too soon. "He did okay and we plan to get him some more minutes in another friendly next week."
