Steve Davis believes teenage transfer target Che Adams will get the chance to shine after opting to join rivals Sheffield United.

Davis was on a long list of managers in League One, the Championship and Premier League interested in signing the 18-year-old striker, who put pen to paper on a three-year deal at Bramall Lane on Friday. "We were disappointed to miss out on Che, but he has joined a good club. He has joined a big club, especially in our division," Davis told Crewe's official website ahead of Tuesday night's FA Cup first-round replay against the Blades. "Nigel (Clough) is always prepared to give young players a chance and he takes a keen interest in his development squad. "So Che should get those opportunities at Sheffield United. It is a good move for him because he has joined a manager who will give him a chance. "I'm sure that financially he went beyond us in the end. I'm sure Ilkeston got the best deal they could and we wish him well. "We move on from that one and will continue to look at the non-league because there are good players at that level. "We are always out looking at players who are doing well or who have been recommended to us."
